Questions about using CHAMP-Net

What is CHAMP-Net?

The Children's Health Access and Medical Program (CHAMP) is a training program developed by the National Health Foundation for children's healthcare advocates and outreach workers.  Participants are trained through an integrated approach incorporating  public and private programs for free and low cost health coverage for children and pregnant women.  CHAMP-Net supports CHAMP by providing its training information and materials online.

What is the CHAMP Manual?

The CHAMP Manual provides comprehensive information about public and private programs for free and low cost health insurance for children and pregnant women. Its format is simple and easy to understand. The Medi-Cal section of the manual and the website covers only Medi-Cal for children and does not include Medi-Cal Aid Codes.

Please note: Medi-Cal offers many other programs not included in the CHAMP Manual or on CHAMP-Net.

What programs are covered?

The CHAMP Manual provides information on Medi-Cal for Children, Healthy Families, Kaiser Permanente Child Health Plan, CaliforniaKids, and Mothers (AIM), Child Health and Disability Prevention Program (CHDP), California Children's Services (CCS), County Specific (Healthy Kids). The manual reviews the recommended immunization schedule and immigrants' concerns about public charge.

How does the Eligibility Calculator work?

The Eligibility Calculator identifies the program(s) for which children and pregnant women in a family may qualify based on answers to questions regarding income and family size.  A Results page provides  a chart with checkmarks indicating the programs for which  individuals may qualify and links to these programs' websites.  Users can click on the "Summary Page" button to review the results and the information they entered.

How often is the site updated?

The CHAMP-Net site is updated whenever changes are made to any of the programs it covers. There may be slight delays as information is made public or being verified. Joining the CHAMP-Net Community is free and allows you to receive emails alerting you to program changes. To join the CHAMP-Net Community, click here.

How do I open/read or download the CHAMP Manual?

The CHAMP Manual is available free of charge on this website. You can download it in Adobe Portable Document File (.pdf). You can read the Manual on screen or print it out. click here.

How do I open (.pdf) files?

To open .pdf (Adobe Portable Document Files) you need to have Adobe Acrobat on your computer. You can download the latest version of Adobe Acrobat free from Adobe's Website. If you have Adobe Acrobat, we recommend that you update to the latest version. click here.

Why are some pages in the CHAMP Manual .pdf file sideways?

When this occurs in the CHAMP Manual .pdf file, it is because some pages are laid out as portrait and others as landscape. Portrait pages will appear normal and the landscape pages will appear sideways. In Adobe Acrobat there should be a button in the toolbar to rotate the page. If this button is not on your Adobe Acrobat toolbar, you may need to download the latest version of Adobe Acrobat free from Adobe's website. click here.

If I use an older web browser or do not have one of the programs needed to optimally use this site, is there anything I can do?

The CHAMP-Net web site is designed to be viewed optimally in Internet Explorer 6 and above with a screen resolution of 800x600 and with Adobe Acrobat Reader (5.x -). Older browsers may display some but not all of the features of the site correctly. A lesser screen resolution will not display optimally and may appear disoriented. You need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the .pdf files that are available to download; earlier versions of Acrobat Reader may not optimally display the pages.
